National Professor

All of you who are present here are voluntary donors. I cannot compare your with anything. All of you are children of our golden country! I am very happy to be here to meet you. And I have been given the opportunity to get acquainted with the Quantum Foundation, so I thank them.
As you all know, I'm a doctor. When I started my education, Dhaka Medical College was the only medical college in the country. I can’t even explain how difficult it was for us to find blood donors back then.

When I was in my third year of undergrad, our professor suddenly decided that there would be a heart operation and all of our batch should be there. We were 18 students. We went to the operation theater . Everyone was very enthusiastic to see the operation. All of a sudden the patient began to bleed a lot and we only had one bottle of blood. Back then blood was bottled unlike now, where special packaging is done.

The patient needed more than just one bottle of blood. Our professor asked the 18 of us to rush and donate blood with whoever’s group matched with the patient’s. The blood bank was very small. We donated blood for the very first time and we didn’t even know how to do it. Unfortunately, the patient couldn’t survive.

This was my first experience and through it I got to know that there’s no harm in donating blood.
And all you who are present here know that there is no harm in blood donation. You do not need any preparation for this. Allah has made human blood in such a way that it can be repeatedly donated, as it is rebuilt within a certain period of time.

Today, the 136th felicitation program for the lifetime blood donor is being held for those who donated blood at least three times. The late National Professor Dr. Nurul Islam- who was our teacher in medicine practice, also came here as the chief guest. It is good to see myself in his place. Before I came here, I got some publications of Quantum's activities. I got to learn about Quantum’s activities but after coming here I could see their mighty work with my own eyes.

From the time I was in Dhaka, I saw how the patients died due to lack of blood! I could not do anything for them because it was not so easy to get blood. But now our average life expectancy has increased. In my regular work, I see patients of 50/60/80 years coming for treatment and I treat them. Many even have to go through operations. At these times we are very much in control and confident that we can get blood for the patient's needs! It was not like that before. Especially when babies are born but now we don’t worry if we’ll get the blood when needed.

A few years ago, a patient from Noakhali came in for treatment. I was told it was an emergency. The reason that the patient could survive from Noakhali to Dhaka Medical College was because it was possible to give him eight bags of blood on the way.

It was only possible because donors like you donated blood regularly. Quantum played a huge role in this aspect. Quantum showed that we can do anything we want without any foreign help.
We can practice and teach ourselves and each other on how to be better.

Before coming to this program, I knew about Quantum, that there is only yoga here. But it is very nice to know about the blood donation, Quantum Cosmo School and other activities. I hope those who are doing these works and who are helping, all be happy. I pray all of you good health. Apart from blood donation, also do come to Quantum's various self-development programs. It’ll surely do you good.
