I Salute the Donors of this Society
Md. Sirajul Haque Khan
Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh
Today’s
program was hosted for those who donated blood selflessly. I don’t have
the ability to honor you for the work you did. But I am thankful that I
could meet you all.
Giving out advices is very easy but in most cases you’ll see that the advisor doesn’t practice the advice he gave out himself. But the one who has been advised has to follow it. Hence, my advices may seem unnecessary to a lot of you.
I donated blood three times. But I am still in a big debt. In 1983, I was admitted to a Chest Disease Hospital due to complications of bronchitis. At this time, my body bled the most of my blood. Blood had to be transfused in me. But due to a mismatch, the body started to react. Then the voluntary blood donors came forward to help. Therefore, today I say that the blood currently in my body is not mine. I was healed by getting blood from others.
In today's ceremony, a blood donor said that blood donation is good for the body after a specific time. I would like to agree with him through a lot scientific perspective.
Those of you who are here are responding to the call of people on their last stage of their life, putting a smile on their faces, it is equal to responding to a religion's call. The reason for all religion is to respond to the call of the people on their death bed. And the Quantum Foundation is doing this work of religion.
The Quantum Foundation honors all of us by officially organizing a felicitation ceremony. And I congratulate the donors. Instead of advising you, I plead you to continue your work. Others will feel motivated through you and thus the number of blood donors will be multiplied.
In the last few years in our country, I saw the screams of the silent people, due to the various accidents and mishaps. At that time blood donors like you, saved their lives. But you did not get any fame or popularity, and neither do you need that. Those who want popularity are different. There is a saying- great are those who don’t need fame or popularity.
For example: Every building has its foundation. We can only see the part above the ground. We can’t see the brick-cement-iron underneath the ground that’s left behind in a dark, airless place. However, the structure is standing tall because of those compounds.
So whoever is working silently doesn’t need the fame, doesn’t need to brag! Their strength is that, they kept a beautiful structure like us standing. I salute the donors of this society. I am grateful to all of you.
